The East Akim District Director of Education, Ms. Ernestina Ofori has urged headteachers to submit accurate and reliable data on their schools for effective planning.
Ms. Ofori who was addressing a day's workshop on School Mapping at Kibi, said inaccurate data undermined information processing at the Headquarters of the Ghana Education Service (GES). Thirty (30) participants comprising, Circuit Supervisors, Planning and Statistics Officers and Assistant Directors of Supervision, from the Fanteakwa and East Akim Districts attended the workshop, which was sponsored by UNICEF. She asked the headteachers to stop submitting low enrolment figures when accounting for school fees collected and later inflate the enrolment figures when they require school materials from district officers. Ms. Ofori said falsification of official documents retarded educational development especially at the grassroots. Mr. Godwin Oduro, the Eastern Regional Statistics Officer and school Mapping Coordinator, explained that the exercise would enable the GES to identify private schools that are not officially registered with the Service.
Miss Veronica Kutin of the Statistics, Research and Information Unit of the GES, asked District Directors to provide computers for the data collection officials to facilitate proper collation of raw data.
