A rare Amur tiger was born in Ukraine's Yalta Zoo at the start of April, local media reported on Tuesday.
"There are very few Amur tigers in the world, so every time a tiger is born it is a great success not only for the zoo but also for International Red Book," Oleg Zubkov, director of Yalta Zoo, said in an interview with "Inter" TV channel.
According to Zubkov, only about 300 Amur big cats survive in the wild.
Zoo staff said the new born baby tiger is quite healthy. but veterinarians took him away from his parents as the young mother tiger is not experienced at nursing a baby.
The baby tiger lives in a glass box at the zoo where he drinks special-formula milk.
Amur cats breed rarely in captivity. However, in the Yalta zoo, 10 baby Amur tigers have been born during the last 15 years.
