The National Media Commission (NMC) has directed the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Professor John Aheto, to step aside in the interim.
It has also asked the Director-General of the Corporation, Mr William Ampem-Darko, to proceed on leave with immediate effect until further notice.
A statement signed by Mr George Sarpong, Executive Secretary of the NMC, said the action followed the "obvious breakdown of mutual trust and confidence" between the two men and "the deleterious impact these developments are having on the corporation as a whole".
Mr Edward B. Asare, a member of the Board, would act as the Chairman of the Board while the Deputy Director-General, Mr Kwabena Sarpong Anane, would act as the Director-General.
The NMC assured the Board Chairman, Director-General, Management and Staff of GBC and the whole nation that it was investigating all relevant matters affecting the operations of the corporation in order to re-establish normalcy.
