Mr Stephen Bekoe, Assembly member for Anum Apapam North electoral area, has appealed to the Department of Feeder Roads (DFR) and the Suhum Kraboa-Coaltar District Assembly (SKCDA), to urgently rehabilitate the poor sections of the Anum Apapam Obuoho road, to help check the rampant motor accidents.
Mr Bekoe said drivers, who use the four kilometre feeder road, often crashed their vehicles head-on, in their attempt to avoid the numerous potholes on the road.
According to the Assembly member, some drivers lost control of their vehicles, which results in fatalities, adding that, the route was rough, undulating, rocky and hilly.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the Bele-Obuoho section of the road has been described by many as a death-trap, because of the bad nature
of that section, which was a sharp curve in a valley.
Mr Bekoe stressed that on August 19, this year, there was a fatal accident at Nyakoma village, when a vehicle reversed from the hilly portion into the valley at Nyakoma.
The absence of a constant re-filling and construction of drainage on the stretch of the road, has contributed to truck drivers discontinuing their services, with the exception of old cars and taxi cars on the road, he noted.
He said these smaller cars could not cart our yams, corn, cocoyams, plantains, citrus, palm fruits and cocoa beans, that abound in the area.
He called on the DFR and SKCDA to rehabilitate the dangerous 4-kilometre feeder road, to help save lives and reduce accidents.
Mr Bekoe said part of the Anum Apapam and Nfranor roads are part of the Anum Apapam North electoral area, saying, the two towns are on the Suhum-Asamankese highway, but the road is equally in bad shape and needs reshaping.
