A circuit court at Akim Swedru in the Birim South District presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah, on Thursday sentenced a 27-year-old unemployed to three years imprisonment for biting the right thumb of his brother and nearly damaging his head with a cutlass during a scuffle.
Fred Adjei pleaded guilty to the use of offensive weapon.
Briefing the court, Police Chief Inspector Kwadwo Ahenkorah stated that the complainant, Mr Kwame Frimpong is a driver and a brother of Adjei both living at Akim Abenase near Akim Oda.
He said on July 17, this year, at about 0600 hours, the accused, who returned from Nzema to Abenase two months ago, was spotted by Madam Ama
Agyeiwaa, a witness in the case, holding a cutlass shouting that he (Adjei) would kill three people to be satisfied.
According to him, the witness then rushed to the complainant's farm at the outskirt of the town and advised him to be careful with his brother, but
within moments, the accused emerged on the farm with a cutlass in hand.
Chief Inspector Ahenkorah said without any provocation, a struggle ensued between them and in the process Adjei pulled the cutlass with the
view to damage his brother's head, but raised the left hand to protect his head and as a result, Adjei cut his brother's hand.
He said Adjei also bit Mr Frimpong's right thumb and when he shouted for help, he was rescued and sent to Akim Oda Government Hospital where
after three weeks admission he was transferred to St Joseph's Catholic Hospital at Koforidua.
