Gideon Kusekpor, 30, a farmer of Alavanyo-Dzogbedze in the Hohoe Municipality, has been sentenced by the Kpando Circuit court to 10 years imprisonment for cutting a high tension pole ostensibly to steal cables.
Kusekpor, pleaded guilty to the charge of causing harm to the pole, a property of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and was jailed as such.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay GHC200 Cedis for the damaged caused.
Police Sergeant Moses Aziagah, prosecuting, narrated to the court, presided over by Mr Samuel Kofi Solomon, that information got to the
complainants, who are the chiefs and elders of Alavanyo-Dzogbedze that Kusekpor, was cutting the erected pole at the outskirts of the town, on
August 29.
He said the youth groups, mobilised by the chief, arrested the convict and sent him to the Police Station.
Sergeant Aziagah said the Police visited the scene and saw the damaged pole firmly clutched to the suspended cables.
Kusekpor, explained that his negative action was influenced by the devil, pleading for leniency.
