A farmer who is standing trail for being at a place for wrong reasons had himself jailed for spitting on a witness.
Yaw Appiah who was charged with being on a premises for unlawful means was granted a GH1,000 bail with one surety by the Kade District Magistrate Court on Wednesday.
But as there was no one to stand surety for him and was being led out of the court room, he suddenly spat on one of those who arrested him, a
witness in the case.
Appiah, who had earlier pleaded guilty with explanation, was as a result sent back to the dock, charged with assault and battery and sentenced to three months in prison in hard labour.
He will re-appear on September 10 in connection with the original charge of being found on the premises of Akosua Korang for unlawful purposes with intent to commit a crime of stealing.
When the Magistrate, Mr. Abdul Majid, asked Appiah if he actually spat on the witness at the premises of the court, he replied: that is so.
The magistrate observed that there was still sputum on the mans forehead and that the policeman guarding him had confirmed that Appiah
really spat on his face.
Appiahs reply was that the man followed him as he left the court room to the urinal.
Mr. Iliasu said Appiah had committed the offence of assault and battery by spiting on the witness at the premises of the court.
He had shown no respect to the court and shown no remorse for his action and jailed him for three months in hard labour.
