A grenade explosion on Monday night targeted a vehicle belonging to the National Electoral Commission at Ruziba, on the border between Bujumbura Municipality and the Province of Bujumbura Rural in Burundi.
Police sources told local radio stations that the grenade explosion did not make any damages as the car was in motion. Police said they are still
looking for the criminal.
Another grenade was fired at Bujumbura's Gasenyi suburb on Monday night inside the residence of Major General Evariste Ndayishimiye who is the
Military Private Secretary of Burundi's President Pierre Nkurunziza.
Witnesses told local radio stations that the grenade damaged the fence of Ndayishimiye's house. One of his guards told reporters that he saw a taxi moving fast right after the explosion.
Another grenade blast occurred on Monday night in a bar in Bujumbura City center. He grenade blast seriously damaged a car belonging to the Embassy of Tanzania. Police are still looking for the criminals.
Burundian citizens went to polls on Monday to elect their president. Ruling party candidate Pierre Nkurunziza was the only running. Six opposition candidates pulled out of the presidential elections early in June alleging
massive fraud in the May 24 communal elections.
Electoral Commission spokesman Pierre Claver Ndayicariye on Monday afternoon said provisional results from the presidential elections are expected on Wednesday.
