Ghana prepares to welcome a boxing legend, one of the
greatest sons of Diaspora Africa and a highly distinguished personality. Larry Holmes WBC/IBF
Heavyweight Champion (1978â€1985) and 2nd longest reigning Heavyweight Champion of all time,
is paying a 5â€day cultural visit to Ghana to celebrate African boxing and promote tourism
opportunities for Ghana at the centre of the world. Larry Holmes’s visit is scheduled for 30th July
to 5th August 2010.
As part of activities marking the visit, Larry Holmes will stage an exhibition bout with Barima
Azuma Nelson and hold a workshop with Boxers at the Accra Sports Stadium. Other activities will
include visits to important dignitaries and historic sites in Accra, Kibi, Kumasi and Cape Coast. To
climax this historic event the promoters will honour Legendary Larry Holmes and the Great
Muhammed Ali at Bukom Square and launch the Larry Holmes Boxing Museum.
To welcome this event there will be a Press Launch at the National Sports Council Conference
Hall, Ohene Gyan Sports Stadium on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 10:00am.
This historic visit is being organized by the Nii Guate Foundation in partnership with Larry
Holmes Enterprises (USA), Nuumo Guate Peace Foundation, Agu Resources, Village
Communications in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Youth and
Sports. The Gua Stool of the Ga State has appointed Yankah & Associates as the official Event
Managers for the Larry Holmes 5â€day historic visit.
