The Nkawkaw Divisional Police has arrested six persons suspected to be members of syndicate involved in stealing electricity cables in the area.
The suspects are Kwesi Osei, aged 44, a chainsaw operator, Abdulai Naski, 22, a scrap dealer, Samuel Yaw Addo, 22, a trader and Kwame Anokye Asante, 22, a drivers' mate and two others whose names were not given.
Briefing the media the Nkawkaw Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Kofi Asare, said on June 19 police had a tip off that members of a syndicate had grouped in a house at Accra Town in Nkawkaw.
He said police personnel were sent to the house and when it was searched two pliers suspected to be used in cutting the electricity cables, a quantity of leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine was found on the suspects.
Mr Asare said the suspects were arraigned before a District Magistrate Court at Nkawkaw and been remanded in police custody to re-appear on July 05 for trial.
He appealed to residents in the area to assist the police by providing them with information and also expose criminals in their midst.
The Divisional Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Joseph Apoya, called for the formation of neighbourhood watch committees to assist the police.
