A Ho High Court presided over by Justice Kofi Essel Mensah, on Monday sentenced a 19 year-old student to three years imprisonment for manslaughter.
A seven member jury, which found Christian Adzakpo Morkporkpor guilty, however, returned a not-guilty verdict for Moses Tsitey, a juju man who was in the dock with Morkporkpor.
The Prosecution told the Court that on October 16, 2006, Morkporkpor and one Bright Addo, now deceased, went to Tsitey, a self styled herbalist at Lormnava near Tsito for juju to fortify them against cutlass wounds.
The Prosecution said after the performance of the rituals, Tsitey gave the cutlass to Addo, the deceased to test the potency of the juju by
slashing the upper arm of Morkporkpor.
It said Morkporkpor did not sustain any cut and that he (Morkporkpor) in turn used the cutlass on the deceased and he sustained a deep cut from which he bled and died.
Mr Ernest Gaewu, Counsel for Morkporkpor earlier prayed the court to consider the age of Morkporkpor, the number of years he spent on remand and he being a first time offender.
