The Akim Swedru Circuit Court in the Birim South District has imposed a fine of GH¢200.00 on Kofi Kyei Baffour, a farmer, for biting the back of another farmer in the course of a scuffle.
Baffour would serve a five-month prison term if he fails to execute the fine.
He pleaded guilty to the charge of assault.
Prosecution told the court presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that the complainant, Opanin Kofi Tano and Baffour lived in the same vicinity at Akim Swedru in the Eastern Region.
On May 4, 2010 at about 2130 hours, Tano was returning from town to his house when he saw Baffour and his friends sitting near the palace at Akim Swedru, where a taxi cab nearby knocked a dog in the middle of the street.
The prosecution stated that Baffour and his friends shouted at the driver to stop, and Mr Tano who was close to them replied that "Sitting in front of a palace does mean you are on top of the world."
Baffour became infuriated and the situation degenerated into a fight during which the accused bit the back of the complainant.
Mr Tano made a report to the police who issued him a medical form to attend hospital.
