Left Democratic Front government in the south Indian state, Kerala on Wednesday decided to bring workers of the unorganised sector under the ambit of its Rs two per kg rice scheme.
With this, the total number of families to benefit from the subsidised food grain scheme would go up to 3.5 million, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told reporters after a state
cabinet meeting.
Workers in several other categories had already been included in the scheme.
This decision would mean that nearly half of the seven million ration card holders in the state would benefit from the programme.
