A 23-year-old apprentice welder, Ibrahim Adams, was on Tuesday sentenced by a Cape Coast Circuit Court to a fine of GH¢2,400 or in default go to prison for three years for attempting to rob
one Mr Andrew Emunah, a building contractor.
Adams pleaded guilty to the charge of causing unlawful damage to a door and attempted robbery but pleaded not guilty to the charge of
conspiracy and possessing dangerous implements.
The court presided over by Mr. Beresford Acquah decided to sentence Adams to a fine for "saving the time of the court" on the first two counts which are to run concurrently.
Briefing the court on the facts of the case, the prosecutor, Sergeant Samuel Amoako, said last Wednesday at about 8:00hrs, the convict together
with two others, Francis Boye and one Emma, who live in the same vicinity with the complainant at Asokyeano near Abura, attempted to rob him.
He said the three men who were armed with a hammer, a knife, a box of matches and a bunch of keys, tried to break into the room of the complainant and damaged the main door leading to his rooms.
Sergeant Amoako said in the process of breaking into the house, some residents chanced upon them and suspected them to be thieves and therefore rushed to inform the police at the Brimso Police Barrier which is close to the vicinity.
He said the police on arrival arrested Adams while his two accomplices bolted.
