Union Home minister of India P Chidambaram's Delhi-bound flight from the south Indian state, Chennai was delayed by an hour after an inebriated woman created ruckus, airport officials said.
Though a cabinet-ranked VVIP was in the aircraft, the airport authorities could do little to solve the problem.
The woman did not board the flight despite the final call and was refused entry at the step ladder as she was found to be drunk, officials said.
She entered into a heated argument with airport and airline officials, demanding that she be allowed to board the aircraft, they said.
However, the Indian Airlines Flight, which was scheduled for departure at 6.10 pm (IST), flew without her one hour later, the officials said.
