A 24-year old labourer was on Thursday arraigned before the Tema Circuit Court 'A' for possessing fake currency notes and causing unlawful damage.
Yaw Akakpo pleaded guilty to the first count but pleaded not guilty to the second count.
The court remanded him into police custody to re-appear on March 18.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Adolphus Otchere told the court presided over by Mrs. Laurenda Owusu that on March 1, at about 2000 hours, Akakpo bought "banku" with smoked fish from a trader and paid with a one Ghana cedi note.
Chief Inspector Otchere said having realized that the currency was a little different from the normal currency note, the seller requested for a
replacement but the accused person refused and argued with her.
Chief Inspector Otchere said the seller solicited the assistance of other customers to have the currency note changed for her but the accused took to his heels with the food.
The prosecutor said the seller raised the alarm that attracted passers-by who chased the accused.
Chief Inspector Otchere said the accused ran into a taxi cab and damaged the front windscreen before he was caught.
The court was also told that the accused was searched on the spot and 365 Ghana cedis, in different denominations, were found on him bearing the same serial number.
The prosecutor said during interrogation, the accused confessed in his caution statement that he bought the fake currency notes at circle for 100 Ghana Cedis with genuine notes.
