Mrs Abena Fredua-Okyere, Co-ordinator of Dreams and Team Club and Headmistress of the Rosharon Montessori School in Tema, has taken a swipe at irresponsible parenting, which has crept into the society.
She stressed that the practice is a potential breeding ground for child truancy and social deviants.
Mrs. Fredua-Okyere said this during the closing session of the Third Annual Dreams and Team Week celebration, organised by the British Council in collaboration with Middle Sport College in the United Kingdom (UK) in Tema.
One of the underlying objectives of the club was to use culture and sports as a unifying factor among nations and individuals.
She noted that active participation of parents, which includes monitoring and supervision, was crucial towards the total welfare and development of children.
The Co-ordinator also urged students to take their studies serious, so as to justify the huge investment being made in their education, and to consequently make positive and meaningful contributions towards national development.
Mr Felix Nyarko, Chairman of the Cement Distributors Association, who chaired the function, advised teachers to sacrifice their time and offer quality teaching, to enhance the academic prospects of students.
During the celebration, students participated in activities such as, fun games, debate, clean-up campaigns, presentation of gifts to various orphanage homes in the Tema Metropolis.
The colourful grand durbar to climax the celebration attracted parents and guardians, who interacted with staff on the challenges and achievements of the school.
The rich Ghanaian culture and values of various ethnic groups were on full display by students.
Parents who joined their wards to celebrate the occasion told the GNA they were impressed, and that the extra curricular activities initiated by the school, would help broaden the academic performances of the children.
