THE National Theatre of Ghana will come alive with an emotionally gripping and thought-provoking theatrical experience as Beyond the Walls comes off on Saturday, March 29, and Sunday, March 30.
Written by playwright George Quaye and directed by actress and media personality Naa Ashorkor, Beyond the Walls will not be just another stage play but one that explores life behind bars and the struggles ex-convicts face when reintegrating into society.
The production, a collaboration between Image Bureau and April Communications with support from Joy FM, United Nations family in Ghana and Stanbic Bank sheds light on the often-overlooked realities of prisoners, portraying their journey from incarceration to freedom and the harsh challenges they endure even after serving their sentences
It aims at sparking conversations about rehabilitation, second chances, and the role society plays in accepting reformed individuals back into the community.
In addition to its powerful storyline, the production features a stellar cast of talented actors who bring depth and authenticity to their roles.
Speaking about the essence of the production, the driving force behind Image Bureau George Quaye, emphasised its uniqueness and social relevance stating "unlike many other plays, Beyond the Walls is not just about entertainment, it is a mirror reflecting the struggles of those who have been behind bars.
“It delves into their pain, their regrets, and their hopes for redemption. More importantly, it challenges us as a society to reconsider how we perceive and treat these individuals after their release. Are we giving them a fair chance, or are we simply building higher walls around them?”
He is hopeful the play’s compelling message, outstanding performances, and top-notch production, would make it “one of the most impactful theatre productions of the year.”
