The California fires in January 2025 left an immense amount of devastation in their wake. Several celebrities lost their homes in the fires that first began to rage on January 7, 2025. From Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag from The Hills to Schitt’s Creek’s Eugene Levy, many stars' homes were damaged in the event.
Spencer was one of the first celebrities to reveal his home had been destroyed in the Pacific Palisades fire on January 8, 2025. The reality star had been documenting the fires as they blazed nearby, and they eventually took his home.
“Nightmare came true,” Spencer wrote alongside a video of the flames.
That same day, TMZ reported that Adam Brody and his wife, Leighton Meester, lost their home in the fires, as well as Anna Faris, whose entire block appeared to have been leveled to the ground. The outlet later revealed that Paris Hilton's beach house in Malibu was also destroyed.
Horror icon Jamie Lee Curtis revealed that there was a possibility that the wildfires had destroyed her home.
"My community and possibly my home is on fire. My family is safe. Many of my friends will lose their homes,” Jamie wrote via Instagram.
Actress Denise Crosby was in a similar situation and said she wasn’t sure if she had lost her home in the fires.
"I’m in the thick of it! Safe with my husband and dog, but not sure if I have a house. Keep you posted,” Denise shared in a post via X.
Miles Teller and his wife Keleigh’s home was destroyed, with the actress sharing a photo of the wreckage on January 10, 2025. “To everyone reaching out I can’t thank you enough, your kind hearts have meant the world, I’ll never forget them. Community has come out stronger than I could imagine, Pacific Palisades I love you beyond measure you are a little slice of heaven, we will come back stronger than ever.”
Keleigh concluded by asking others in L.A. to evacuate if they can. She also added that she was unable to grab her wedding dress when they fled the home and wished she had done “a lot differently.”
Silence of the Lambs star Anthony Hopkins’, Billy Crystal’s, John Goodman’s, Cobie Smulders’ and soap opera star Cameron Mathison’s homes also burned to the ground, according to Page Six. Maria Shriver, the former first lady of California, also lost her home.
Dianne Warren's, Melissa River's and The Princess Bride’s Cary Elwes’ homes also perished in the fire. Tom Hanks’ son Chet Hanks shared that “the neighborhood he grew up in” was “burning to the ground.” Chet currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee. However, neither Tom or his wife, Rita Wilson, have released a statement about the status of their home.
Former talk show host Ricki Lake and husband Ross Burningham’s house was destroyed by the fire. Ricki described the loss as “immeasurable” and revealed it was where she and Ross said their vows.
The Food Network’s Sandra Lee shared that her home had been destroyed via social media.
“My house is gone – I cried all night and thought about every room, nook and cranny. It was perfection and now it’s just Ash,” Sandra wrote via Instagram.
A rep for Jeff Bridges confirmed to TMZ that the Pacific Palisades fire had destroyed The Big Lebowski star’s Malibu home. Jeff, along with his brother Beau Bridges and their sister, had inherited the house from their family.
Candy Spelling also lost her home in Malibu.
"I’m in shock and processing this massive loss for our family. I am beyond grateful for the memories. It was truly a wonderful gift to have,” she told TMZ.
On January 7, 2024, Rosie O’Donnell told fans via Instagram that she was safe and had managed to evacuate to a hotel. The following day she shared a video via TikTok and said that her house had been destroyed.
One day after revealing that her family evacuated, Mandy Moore shared on January 9, 2025, that her home had mostly burned down, but “miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing.”
“For now. It’s not livable but mostly intact. We lost Taylor and Griffin’s studio with every instrument and piece of equipment they’ve ever owned. We lost our garage and back house. Everyone we know lost everything,” she wrote on Instagram.
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Bozoma Saint John wrote about the “unimaginable loss” of losing her dream home.
“This is the house I wanted. The house I prayed for. The house I worked in blood, sweat and tears for,” she shared on Instagram. “It is gone. … I grieve with the rest of Los Angeles as it burns… and even though I’ve found even words to write here, there’s nothing that I could say in this moment to describe this feeling.”
Singer-songwriter Jhené Aiko also shared on January 9 that her home had burned down. “Me and my children’s home is gone, burned to the ground with all of our things inside,” she wrote on her Instagram. Lord have mercy. A thankful we still have each other. Starting from scratch. My heart is so heavy.”
Milo Ventimiglia and wife Jarah Mariano, who is nine months pregnant with their first child, lost their home to one of the fires. The Gilmore Girls actor told CBS News that he watched it burn to the ground via security cameras.
“It’s a kind of a shock moment where you go, this is real, this is happening and at a certain point you just turn it off,” he said. “What good is it to continue watching? We kind of accepted the loss.”
Beyoncé’s mom, Tina Knowles, as well as Mel Gibson, Bryan Greenberg and Jamie Chung and John C. Reilly also confirmed that their homes burned. Seinfeld star Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ home in the Pacific Palisades was also demolished by the flames, as seen in photos published by The Daily Mail.
Many stars weren’t sure the extent of the damage done to their houses because they were forced to evacuate the area. While Mandy, along with her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, their three children and their pets were able to evacuate the area to safety, she wasn’t sure if they would have a home to return to when the fires were extinguished.
“Praying for everyone in our beautiful city. So gutted for the destruction and loss. Don’t know if our place made it,” Mandy wrote via her Instagram Stories on January 8, 2025. “Grateful for the kindness of friends that we had a place to land last night. Trying to shield the kids from the immense sadness and worry I feel.”
TMZ reported that Ben Affleck was forced to evacuate due to the wildfires and he headed to his ex-wife Jennifer Garner's home to wait it out.
Travis Barker’s children Alabama Barker and Landon Barker both announced they had fled from the area.
"Just evacuated from my home do [sic] to wildfires in Los Angeles, please be safe!! They are saying the fires are spreading football field amounts in seconds,” Alabama wrote, while Landon said, "Just evacuated praying for everyone the fires have effected [sic].”
Eugene Levy spoke with the Los Angeles Times in a phone interview as he evacuated the area. The National Lampoon’s Vacation actor said that the "smoke looked pretty black and intense over Temescal Canyon.”
“I couldn't see any flames, but the smoke was very dark,” he added.
Dancing With the Stars’ Derek Hough vacated the area as a precaution.
"The winds are hitting 100mph, and we're packing up, preparing to evacuate with our five animals JUST IN CASE,” Derek wrote via his Instagram Stories. "It's scary with power lines exploding around us and the fires spreading so fast."
Chrissy Teigen had been documenting the fires via her Instagram Stories and revealed that she, her husband, John Legend, and their four children evacuated their home and were staying at a hotel.
“I haven’t had the words, it is a hellscape. … Thank you for reaching out. Looking for any and all ways to help our community right now,” the Sports Illustrated model wrote.
The Black Eyed Peas’ Fergie was forced to evacuate and while her house was in an area that was affected by the fires, it was still intact, according to TMZ. Casino star James Woods also noted he was leaving the area and said that he “hoped everybody gets out safely.” He later confirmed that while he and his family managed to evacuate, he wasn’t sure if his home made it.
“I do not know at this moment if our home is still standing, but sadly houses on our little street are not,” James wrote via X.
Star Wars legend Mark Hamill also evacuated and described the blaze as the “most horrific since ‘93.” Jennifer Love Hewitt and Whitney Cummings were also forced to leave their homes behind due to the flames.
Members of the Kardashian-Jenner family, including Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Rob Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner and Kris Jenner, evacuated their homes in the Calabasas area on January 9, 2024, The New York Post reported.
Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt asked for people to join him in praying for those who were dealing with the fires and for the local firefighters battling the flames as well.
“Join me in praying for the brave firefighters sacrificing so much to save our houses and our town. Jesus, protect the lives of those battling the flames and the lives of those who couldn’t evacuate,” Chris wrote via X on January 8, 2025.
Priyanka Chopra shared some eerie imagery in videos she had taken of the wildfires from afar.
"My thoughts are with everyone affected. Hope we are all able to stay safe tonight,” the Quantico alum wrote alongside the clip via her Instagram Stories.
There are several resources available to those who want to help others who have been affected by the wildfires. The American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles is providing shelter, water and food, as well as medical and mental health services to those in need. The organization is accepting donations online, via text (REDCROSS to 90999) or by calling (800) 733-2767.
The American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles is also working with Pierce College in Woodland Hills to provide a shelter for pets. Additionally, the Canine Rescue Club is looking for volunteers to take in temporary foster dogs who have been displaced by the fires.
There are also organizations dedicated to supporting local firefighters, including the L.A. Fire Department Foundation’s Wildfire Emergency Fund, the California Fire Foundation and the CAL FIRE Benevolent Foundation. Donations can be made to these organizations via their websites.
