Hello, friends! I’m Kelsey, your guide to all things pop culture for Yahoo Entertainment, and this is the It List, our weekly rundown of what’s new and notable. In it, I recommended a slew of upcoming releases to watch, stream, listen to, read and binge. I’ll walk you through my favorites.
When: Elton John: Never Too Late starts streaming on Disney+ Dec. 13.
What to know: Elton John has accomplished a lot. Now, he’s found happiness. In this new documentary from R.J. Cutler and John’s husband, David Furnish, John looks back on his meteoric rise and opens up about his mortality. [The Hollywood Reporter/Yahoo Entertainment]
Why I’ll be watching: Time named John its Icon of the Year, but his cultural impact has spanned decades. His life story is so rich, I don’t think I could ever learn enough about him. [Time/Los Angeles Times]
When: Queer is in theaters Dec. 13.
What to know: Daniel Craig plays an American expat in Mexico who chases romantic and chemical highs as he becomes obsessively infatuated with a younger man (Drew Starkey). It’s based on an unfinished autobiographical novella by William S. Burroughs. [Variety/Entertainment Weekly]
Why I recommend it: Come for Craig’s Golden Globe-nominated performance, stay for Starkey’s Golden Globe-snubbed performance. [Yahoo Entertainment]
When: Carry-On starts streaming on Netflix Dec. 13.
What to know: A TSA agent (Taron Egerton) is blackmailed into letting a dangerous package slip onto a flight on Christmas Eve. Jason Bateman plays against type as the unsettling villain. [The Hollywood Reporter]
Why I recommend it: I think the constant debate about whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie just shows that people crave an action flick that feels festive. Well, that’s exactly what Carry-On is. [Yahoo Entertainment/Entertainment Weekly]
When: Inheriting Magic by Jennifer Love Hewitt is out now.
What to know: The actress has a storied acting career, but her memoir honors her memories of her mother, which are especially strong during the holiday season. [Entertainment Weekly]
Why I’ll be reading: The book seems like a great pairing with her new Lifetime Christmas movie, The Holiday Junkie, which she stars in with her real-life husband. It’s also out this week. [Variety]
When: The three-part special Paris & Nicole: The Encore is now streaming on Peacock.
What to know: Nearly 20 years after The Simple Life, Hilton and Richie have reunited for another unexpected job: bringing their song “Sanasa” to the opera. They said they wanted to return to TV after their kids discovered their old show. [People/E! News]
Why I’ll be watching: Though there’s sure to be plenty of nostalgia involved, I’m most excited to see how their dynamic has evolved over the years. They’re back and more business-oriented than ever. [Glamour]
