Ghanaian hairstylist Chelsea-Abigail Owusu Ansah has made history by setting a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the most heads of hair locked in eight hours.
The accomplished stylist, who specializes in dreadlocks, locked 27 heads within seven hours, 51 minutes, and six seconds, officially securing the prestigious title which has been acknowledged on the GWR website.
Chelsea-Abigail, CEO of Yoga Locks, achieved the feat during a lock-a-thon attempt on March 6, 2024. Her record-breaking accomplishment has brought pride to Ghana’s beauty industry, highlighting her dedication and skill.
In a Facebook post, she expressed her pride and excitement: "I am proud and honored to announce that I have officially set a new Guinness World Record for the most heads of hair locked in 8 hours. Thank you, and I look forward to inspiring others to pursue their passion and strive for greatness."
The hairstylist formally announced her achievement at an event on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Blue Kiosk in Ashongman Estate, Accra.
Having been a professional in the hair-locking business for over six years, Chelsea-Abigail explained that her motivation for attempting the record was to challenge negative stereotypes surrounding dreadlocks and promote acceptance of the hairstyle.
She said: "I want people to have more knowlegde about dreadlocks, having dreadlocks doesn't mean you are a bad person. I want to clear that mindset. People with dreadlocks have the purest of mindsets in this world".
According to Chelsea-Abigail, her name was updated on the GWR website two months ago but she was waiting for official confirmation before hosting an event to make a public announcement.
Her remarkable achievement is expected to inspire many in the beauty industry and beyond to follow their passions and strive for excellence.
