Ghanaian actress Luckie Lawson says renowned movie producer/director and CEO of Sparrows Pictures, Shirley Frimpong Manso is not celebrated enough.
According to her, the movie producer whose works such as Perfect Picture, Potomanto, Shampaign have earned huge accolades is still thriving in a male dominated area.
“Shirley needs to be celebrated for her contribution to the growth of Ghana’s movie industry. The producer/director role is mostly dominated by the men but Shirley has proven to be one of the best movie producers challenging the man and doing so well and I really admire her for that,” she told Graphic Showbiz.
Luckie Lawson also mentioned Shirley’s resilient spirit has earned great admiration for the latter and aspires to be like her.
She told Graphic Showbiz that she has always admired Shirley from afar and worth expressing how she feels about her.
“Shirley needs to be celebrated for her contributions in the movie industry. The producer/director role is mostly dominated by the men but Shirley has proven to be one of the best movie producers challenging the men and doing so well and I really admire her for that,” she said.
Luckie Lawson is known for her roles in movies such as Like Cotton Twines (2016), Familiar Strangers (2011) and Silence is Golden (2010).
According to Luckie who recently worked with Shirley on her new series Madam, she is happy to have gained more experience.
“I knew her to be one of the best but never knew her as someone who never rests until she gets what she wants. She wouldn’t mind asking you to do several takes for one particular scene.
“In fact, a lot of actors refuse to work with here because she also wants the best. Working with her on Madam got me closer to her and indeed my love for her has increase.
“Some of us want to be like her and continue her good works. I have produced movies before but Shirley is on another level,” she said.
