The Good News Co-operative Credit Union, a non-banking financial institution based in Kumasi is witnessing a steady growth in its operations.
Established barely three years ago, with 150 members, the company currently boasts of a customer base of about 10,000 with 500 shareholders, across its three branches at Atonsu, Amakom and Suame, all in the Kumasi Metropolis.
Mrs Regina Turkson, Chairperson of the Union, announced at a press briefing in Kumasi on Tuesday.
She said her outfit had employed over fifty young men and women and hoped that more employment opportunities would be given to the youth with the opening of new branches.
Mrs Turkson explained that the modest gains made within the relatively shorter period, was due principally to their utmost trust in the Almighty God and their strict adherence to the principles guiding the operation of credit union.
She urged Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of savings so that they could be financially strong and sound at all times.
The chairperson also cautioned Ghanaians to be wary of some quack financial institution springing up in the country and urged them to do due diligence before investing in such ventures.
Commenting on loans, Mrs Turkson said people should desist from taking loans unnecessarily to avoid financial and legal problems.
"We should be content with what we have, and as much as possible, avoid extravagant spending and life styles, which plunge us into reaping where we have not sowed", he admonished.
