The Chinese economy recorded Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 7.9 per cent during the second quarter of this year from the 7.1 per cent growth rate recorded during the first quarter of the year.
The Minister in-charge of the Publicity Committee of the Politbureau of the Communist Party of China, Mr Liu Yunshan, said though the figures are lower when compared with the achievements of the country last year, it was an indication that the Chinese economy had recovered from the world economy crisis and showing signs of hope.
Mr Yunshan said this when he met some African media personnel attending a two-week workshop as part of the Sino-African co-operation on Thursday at Beijing.
He said during the first half of the year, 1.2 million vehicles were sold in China, a 34 per cent growth that made the country the leading market for car sale in the world.
Mr Yunshan said between January and May China sold 150 million square meters of houses and that despite these achievements the Asian economic giant still faces many challenges.
"The government of China has confidence in the economy because the government has a unique advantage over other countries. The government has the asset of easy mobilization of the people during crisis."
He said because the people have confidence in the government they easily respond positively to the calls of the government to enable the country to always achieve good results.
The spokeswoman of the African media personnel, Ms Eva Mamie Flomo, appealed to the Chinese government to technically support news agencies in Africa for Chinese media to have allies in Africa.
This cooperation will enable African news agencies and China to tell their stories from their own view point and not from the perspective of third countries.
She also suggested to the Chinese authorities to establish a Chinese volunteer corps to work in Africa and also to promote the establishment of inter-city sister relationship between Chinese cities and cities in Africa to enable the people of Africa and the Chinese people to learn more about each other
