Mr Joseph Amenowode, the Volta Regional Minister, on Saturday said people should not be prompted by organized cleanup campaigns to clear their surroundings of garbage.
He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government regarded sanitation as a prime issue, which would be tackled vigorously adding that cleanliness should be a disposition and must concern all Ghanaians.
Mr. Amenowode was speaking during a cleanup exercise in the Ho Municipality in which soldiers of the 66th Artillery Regiment in Ho, staff of Zoomlion, a sanitation company and workers of the Municipal Assembly were key participants.
The Ho city centre, markets and other commercial areas where swept and some drains desilted.
Some individuals also cleared in and around their places of business and homes of weeds and litter.
Ghana News Agency observed that as the people swept the main lorry station and surrounding areas in Ho others dropped waste on the streets, raising questions among bystanders about the sanitation awareness level of Ghanaians.
