The Staff of the Osu Ringway Estate local office of the VAT Service were on Wednesday schooled on the use of the e-zwich smart card, to enable them to use the technology effectively for revenue collection
Mr Archibald Hesse, General Manager of the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement System (GhIPS), explained that e-zwich was introduced to provide an easy and safe way for handling money.
He said the card would facilitate the payment of tax liabilities to the Service to prevent the situation whereby customers would have to queue at the end of each month to pay their taxes.
Mr Hesse also pointed out that the card could provide immediate information on traders with no monies in their account to avoid the issuance of dud cheques.
He stated that the introduction of the card was an initiative of Bank of Ghana (BoG) under its National Payment System Reform and was being implemented together with the Ghana Association of Bankers.
"The card would also ensure a common platform for banks and saving loans companies for the paying of goods and services for all both online and offline", he said.
The staff commended BoG for the initiative and expressed the hope that the card would tremendously increase revenue mobilization.
