The University for Development Studies (UDS) has secured a grant of four million United States Dollars under the Teaching and Learning innovation Fund of the education sector programme fund by the World Bank and administered by the National Council on Tertiary Education.
This was announced by Professor John Kaburise, Vice Chancellor of the UDS to the third matriculation of integrated studies of the University at Wa on Monday.
Professor Kaburise said the University has already submitted various proposals to NCTE to enable it access the fund.
He said Funds has also been approved for the construction of Laboratories for the University, which are at various levels of construction s well as a fish pond and a green house under the agricultural sub programme.
The Vice Chancellor expressed the University's gratitude to the Getfund for the various on-going infrastructural projects at the University and however made a special appeal to the Getfund to give special consideration to the Wa campus of the University which he said has no lecture, theatres, library among others.
Professor Kaburiseh further announced that several containers of equipment under the Spanish grant for the UDS have now arrived at the Tema Harbour.
He said the containers have prefabricated equipment for erection at the campuses of the University.
The Vice Chancellor said out of a total of 1,482 fresh students admitted into the University in he 2004-2005 academic year, 663 freshers had been admitted into the Wa campus of which 290 are female.
The dean of the Wa campus Dr. Daniel Bagah administered the matriculation oath, formally admitting the students into the university.
