Mr Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) assured the authority’s readiness to mobilize the GH¢360 billion minimum revenue target for 2028.
In that regard, he asked the public to insist on receiving Value Added Tax (VAT) invoices whenever they made purchases, urging all taxpayers to honour their taxes obligations, saying that tax payment remained a civic responsibility of all.
Mr Sarpong gave the assurance when speaking at a three-day management retreat of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division (DTRD) of the GRA, underway in Sunyani.
The 2026 DTRD Retreat is on the theme: “Transforming for impact and growth: Focusing on VAT performance and compliance”.
Mr Sarpong said tax education remained imperative if the DTRD could mobilize the targeted revenue, and called for support towards intensified education for tax payers to understand the essence of paying their taxes promptly and regularly.
He called on the public to support the activities of the DTRD, particularly payment of the VAT, saying that with collective efforts, the GRA could deliver its mandate to mobilize the required revenue for progressive development.
“The GRA must remain focused on its revenue mobilization agenda to meet the minimum of GH¢360 billion by 2028 and to support the national development agenda”, he advised.
Mr Sarpong said though the government tasked the GRA to raise not less than GH¢225 billion target the 2026 fiscal year target, “the management of the Authority has set to mobilize an internal target of GH¢230 billion”.
He said as part of efforts to achieve the target, management had tasked the DTRD to mobilize GH¢163 billion.
Mr Sarpong expressed concern that the global revenue support to developing countries like Ghana had dwindled and thereby making it imperative for the nation to mobilize sufficient domestic revenue to prosecute its development agenda.
He urged personnel of the GRA to remain focused in their weekly and monthly tax mobilization drive, urging them to cherish team work and unity of purpose.
