Ghana will play host to the third Annual Conference of the African Association of Accountants General (AAAG) from November 24 to 28, 2025, as the continent’s top finance leaders gather in Accra to push for stronger public financial management (PFM) systems to drive economic prosperity.
Organised in collaboration with the Office of the Controller and Accountant General, the conference will be held under the theme: “Africa of Tomorrow: Positioning Public Finance Management (PFM) for Economic Prosperity.”
This year’s theme reflects a broader continental push to rethink public finance frameworks by leveraging innovation, artificial intelligence, digitalisation, climate-responsive budgeting, and sound fiscal governance.
These reforms, experts say, are vital to building resilience, regaining public trust, and unlocking Africa’s vast economic potential.
AAAG Chief Executive Officer Fredrick Riaga explained the importance of this year’s focus, stating:“This theme embraces our call to action for all governments across Africa: as we work towards greater resilience and inclusive growth, we must strengthen public finance management systems. Adopting agile, digital, citizen-centred, and climate-responsive systems is critical to achieving Africa’s development ambitions.”
For her part, AAAG Chairperson Malehlohonolo Mahase also commented on the significance of the event: “This Conference is more than a gathering of public finance professionals; it is a movement to drive Africa towards transparency, enhanced accountability, improved service delivery, and a more efficient use of resources. By rethinking how we manage public resources, we can build an Africa that is prosperous, inclusive, and ready for current and future challenges.”
The 2025 edition, expected to be the largest yet, will attract more than 2,000 participants including senior government officials, public finance professionals, development partners, fintech innovators, thought leaders, and venture capitalists from across the continent and beyond.
Running alongside the conference will be a major exhibition showcasing cutting-edge solutions in financial technology, AI, digital service delivery, and public sector innovation.
For his part, Ghana’s Controller and Accountant General, Kwasi Agyei, expressed confidence in the country’s readiness to host the event:
“We are proud to welcome Africa’s finance leaders to Accra. Ghana is leading the way in PFM reform and digital transformation, and we look forward to sharing experiences and learning from others. This conference is a major opportunity to shape Africa’s financial future, together.”
The AAAG Annual Conference has become a key platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and strategic collaboration on the continent’s fiscal future. Previous editions were successfully held in Arusha, Tanzania (December 2024) and Maseru, Lesotho (February 2024).
