When finance meets romance
Findings from Binance’s Valentine’s Day Survey
The survey results inspire us to think beyond just the numbers, and to recognize that the journey—whether it’s in the crypto market or love—is shaped by the decisions we make and the balance we find between logic and emotion. The most successful investors, and the most fulfilling relationships, aren’t about always being right or never taking risks; they’re about the ability to stay the course, adjust when necessary, and grow through each challenge.
Let this serve as a reminder: no matter the arena, your commitment to growth, patience, and long-term vision can lead to a prosperous and meaningful future. Keep striving for the best in both love and finances—you’ve got this!
Forget the image of the impulsive trader chasing moonshots – Binance’s latest survey suggests that most crypto investors approach both love and money with patience and a long-term vision. Nearly half of respondents (49%) see themselves as "Forever HODLers," committed to both their portfolios and their romantic partners for the long haul.
Still, not everyone follows the same blueprint. Some embrace high-risk trading but seek stability in love, while others take a long-term financial approach but prefer flexibility in relationships. Then there are the true adventurers, equally open to volatility in both markets and romance. Whether they’re strategists, free spirits, or thrill-seekers, crypto users seem to recognize that love, like investing, requires a mix of planning, resilience, and a willingness to ride out the dips.
Ahead of this Valentine’s Day, we opened up a poll on the Binance Survey platform to both Binance users and those crypto lovers who are not yet part of our community. A total of 2,200 participants from around the world took part in the study.
Strategy vs. Emotion
Some investors rely on careful planning, treating both their portfolios and relationships with calculated precision. They analyze risks, make informed decisions, and ensure that every move – whether financial or romantic – aligns with a long-term vision. Others, however, go with their instincts, following their gut in both investing and love. These romantics trust emotions over charts, believing that the best decisions aren’t always the most logical.
Then there are those who compartmentalize. Some approach crypto with a sharp analytical mind but throw caution to the wind when it comes to love, trusting fate over financial models. Others take the opposite approach, embracing risk in trading while playing it safe in relationships, carefully choosing partners with the same stability they seek in their portfolios.
The survey found that 34% of respondents prefer a calculated approach to both love and money, while the rest are divided between trusting emotions in both or mixing risk-taking in one area with stability in the other.
What Crypto Investors Are Willing to Sacrifice
Both financial success and meaningful relationships demand commitment, and the survey suggests that crypto users are willing to make trade-offs to support their priorities. Some refuse to sacrifice anything for their investments, keeping both their crypto and their lifestyles intact. Others adjust their spending, delaying major purchases (15%), cutting back on shopping (14%), or even reducing travel (13%) to build their portfolios.
Relationships also come with their own set of compromises. While some insist that love shouldn’t interfere with their other priorities, many shift their focus, dedicating more time to their partners, sacrificing personal time (24%), spending less time with friends (19%), or even adjusting financial habits (15%) to keep the peace. It seems that just as in investing, finding balance is key – whether that means making room for a growing crypto portfolio or ensuring that love doesn’t take a backseat.
Financial Compatibility: The True Love Language?
The data makes it clear that shared financial values are a major factor in long-term relationship success. A strong majority of respondents (59%) believe that being on the same page about money is essential, reinforcing the idea that financial literacy isn’t just about personal wealth: it’s also about building stability as a couple.
With crypto becoming an increasingly mainstream part of everyday life, financial education is on the rise, with millions of people seeking to expand their understanding of digital assets. As financial knowledge grows, so too does confidence in managing money within relationships. Whether couples are debating investment strategies or simply trying to avoid financial conflicts, the ability to navigate money matters together can be as important as emotional compatibility.
Love, Crypto, and the Art of Commitment
Much like investing, relationships require patience, resilience, and an ability to think long-term. Whether someone is a committed HODLer, a strategic investor, or a risk-loving explorer, the key to success in both finance and love is knowing what truly matters – and being willing to hold on through the ups and downs.
