The Finance and Administration Sub-Committee of the Upper Denkyira District Assembly, in the Central Region, has been tasked to initiate strategies to assist the assembly to meet its internally generated revenue targets.
Mr Richard Anane Adabor, the District Chief Executive, who made the call, said, in 2004, the assembly was able to collect 955,299,728.20 million cedis, of the estimated revenue of 1,148,630,000 billion cedis.
He said as at November last year, the assembly had collected 71.3 per cent of the estimated revenue of 1,152,600,000 billion cedis.
Addressing the third ordinary meeting of the assembly at Dunkwa-On-Offin, Mr Adabor said the assembly's major problem had been its inability to collect enough revenue from its traditional sources.
He noted that the collection of adequate funds was the backbone of the assembly and the need for a sound revenue base could not be overemphasised.
Mr Adabor said: "Apart from helping to sustain the administrative machinery of the assembly and our development programmes, it is also important for us to determine the amount we get from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).
Mr Adabor charged the assembly members to sensitise the people on the need to fulfil their tax obligations to the assembly.
He announced that the Executive Committee of the assembly had approved revenue and expenditure estimates totalling 1,614,230,000 billion cedis, from the traditional sources.
Mr Adabor said last year the DACF allocation to the district was 4,899,000,000 billion cedis out of which the assembly received 3,273,139,396 billion cedis.
He said: "The total amount received so far has been spent on the numerous on-going projects of the assembly".
