The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ASKIA Immigration Consulting Services, Mrs. Marie Keita Amarteifio, has called on businesses in Ghana to prioritise corporate governance as a key strategy for ensuring sustainable economic growth.
She made these remarks in an interview with Citi Business on the sidelines of the 4th CEO’s Connect event organized by the Canada-Ghana Chamber of Commerce, held in Accra on Thursday, August 15.
Mrs. Amarteifio stressed the critical role that corporate governance plays in fostering transparency, accountability, and ethical business practices.
She highlighted that adherence to strong governance principles not only enhances the reputation and credibility of businesses but also attracts investment, both locally and internationally.
“Corporate governance is not just a buzzword; it is the backbone of any successful business,” Mrs. Amarteifio stated, adding “When companies adopt sound governance practices, they are better positioned to manage risks, make informed decisions, and build trust with stakeholders. This, in turn, drives economic growth and creates a favourable environment for investment and job creation.”
She further noted that in a rapidly evolving global economy, businesses that fail to implement robust governance structures risk falling behind.
Mrs. Amarteifio urged Ghanaian companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to view corporate governance as an essential component of their operations, rather than an optional practice.
“The growth of our local economy depends on the strength of our businesses. By embracing corporate governance, companies can ensure long-term success and contribute significantly to the nation’s economic development,” she added.
The 4th CEO’s Connect, a flagship event by the Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce, brought together leading figures from various sectors to discuss Joint Venture and their importance on business sustainability.
The event also provided a platform for networking and knowledge sharing, with participants exploring ways to enhance governance practices within their organizations.
