STOCK MARKET REVIEW
The Ghana Stock Exchange closed higher for the week supported gains posted by 5 counters. The GSE Composite Index (GSE CI) gained 24.35 points (0.90%) to close at 2,741.65 points reflecting year-to-date (YTD) gain of 41.21%. The GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE FI) also gained 21.24 points (1.12%) to close at 1,911.39 points, reflecting YTD gain of 7.22%.
Market capitalization at the end of the week was GH¢62,648.18 representing 0.64% increase from GH¢62,248.75 million at the close of the previous week. This reflects YTD increase of 15.22%.
Trading activity declined for the week relative to the prior week. A total of 5,787,183 shares valued at GH¢6,427,541.05 changed hands for the week compared with 6,966,429 shares, valued at GH¢12,211,697.25 in the preceding week.
MTN Ghana dominated both volume and value of trades for the week, accounting for 61.67% and 69.97% of total volume and value of shares traded respectively.

CURRENCY MARKET
The Cedi weakened against the USD for the week. It traded at GH¢5.8203/$ on Friday, against GH¢5.8011/$ at week open, reflecting w/w and YTD depreciations of 0.33% and 1.03% respectively against the USD. This compares with YTD depreciation of 2.57% a year ago.
The Cedi also weakened against the GBP on the week. It traded at GH¢8.0690/£, compared with GH¢8.0633/£ at week open, reflecting w/w and YTD depreciations of 0.07% and 2.41% respectively against the GBP. This compares with YTD depreciation of 1.23% a year ago.
The Cedi however closed stronger against the Euro for the week. It traded at GH¢6.8442/€, compared with GH¢6.8808/€ at week open, reflecting w/w and YTD appreciations of 0.53% and 3.22% respectively against the Euro. This compares with YTD depreciation of 7.15% a year ago.
The Cedi likewise closed stronger against the CAD on the week. It opened at GH¢4.6509/C$ but closed at GH¢4.6302/C$, reflecting w/w appreciation and YTD depreciation of 0.45% and 2.18% respectively against the CAD. This compares with YTD appreciation of 0.59% a year ago.

GOVERNMENT SECURITIES MARKET
Government raised a sum of GH¢1,286.99 million for the week across the 91-Day, 182-Day and 364-Day Treasury Bills. This compared with GH¢2,008.91 million raised in the previous week.
The 91-Day and 182-Day Bills lost 3bps and 6bps each to settle at 12.52% p.a. and 13.31% p.a respectively. The 364-Day Bill also lost 11bps to close at 16.29% p.a.

COMMODITY MARKET
Oil prices settled down for the week pressured by a stronger U.S. Dollar. Brent futures traded at US$70.70 a barrel on Friday, reflecting w/w loss and YTD gain of 7.38% and 36.49% respectively.
Gold prices also settled down for the week weighed by rising U.S. Treasury yields and a stronger Dollar. Gold futures settled at US$1,812.60 per ounce on Friday, reflecting w/w gain and YTD loss of 2.73% and 6.97% respectively.
Prices of Cocoa posted gains for the fifth straight week. Cocoa futures settled at US$2,417.00 per tonne on Friday, reflecting w/w gain and YTD loss of 2.16% and 7.15% respectively.
