One of the country’s biggest banks, GCB Bank Limited, now has a new Managing Director.
An astute banker, Mr John Kofi Adomakoh replaces Mr Anselm Ray Sowah, who ended his term of office as the MD of GCB Bank in September this year, after more than three years in that position.
A release issued by the bank said Mr Adomakoh, who joins GCB Bank from African Export-Import Bank headquartered in Cairo, where he worked as the Director & Global Head, Project and Asset-Based Finance, would bring to the new role over 25 years of banking experience, 15 of which had been at executive management level.
It said prior to that, he held leadership roles, including Executive Director, Corporate & Institutional Banking at Barclays Bank Ghana Limited (now ABSA Bank Ghana Limited) and Head of Institutional Banking Group at Ecobank Ghana Limited.
Qualifications
Mr Adomakoh, the release said, held an Executive Master’s degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, majoring in Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon.
He had his Ordinary and Advanced Levels education at the St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast.
His appointment
The board, the release further noted, viewed the new appointment as a major milestone in the bank’s transformation agenda to become a world-class bank with proactiveness in solving client’s needs.
It also believed that his extensive international leadership experience, expertise in global financial markets, combined with his deep understanding of the Ghanaian market would be invaluable to the success of the bank’s transformation agenda and further strengthen its position in growing its market share, revenue and profits.
According to the release, Mr Adomakoh in response to the appointment said: “I am greatly honoured and excited to be joining the GCB team. GCB Bank’s large client base and strong balance sheet uniquely positions it to capitalise on the changing banking environment.
“As the industry evolves through technological advancement, I believe GCB is in a pole position to provide cost-effective and world-class digital solutions to clients. I am passionately committed to placing our clients at the centre of everything we do and look forward to working closely with the board of directors, senior leadership team, and all employees of the bank,” it added.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr Jude Arthur, said in the release that “Kofi is an inspiring and energetic leader, and he is widely known for his collaborative leadership style and for building high-performance teams.
“I have no doubt that Kofi’s extensive financial services background and international experience will help GCB Bank deliver improvement in shareholder value, as well as strengthen and develop key partnerships and strategic alliances”.
The release said the board congratulated Mr Adomakoh on his appointment and thanked all stakeholders for their continued support.
“We are confident that he has what it takes to steer this great bank to the next level”, the release added.
