The activities are financial education programme, eye screening and the refurbishment and donation of Information Communication Technology equipment.

Ms Asiedua Addae, Head, Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing at Standard Chartered Bank told the Ghana News Agency that the support to the Cluster was part of the bank’s investment and engagement in the Community.

She made this known ahead of the official opening of their ultra-modern office complex, management decided to support the Cluster in the area they operate in.

She said the financial education programme was aimed at creating financial awareness among young people to enable them to cultivate the habit of saving for the future.

She said financial education and access to financial services were key drivers of inclusive economic development.

“The students were given financial and saving tips that can help them for the future,” she added.

On the eye screening, she said it formed part of the bank’s ‘Seeing is Believing ‘ (SiB) global initiative to tackle avoidable blindness and visual impairment by improving access to quality, affordable eye care.

She said as Management and Staff of the Bank celebrates 15 years of SiB, at the group level, they have raised $100 million for the initiative.

She explained that Management was conducting the screening in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service, Eye Unit and students that have severe cases would be referred to the Bank for further support.

On the ICT equipment, Ms Addae said the Bank has donated 30 computers and its accessories to the Cluster to help the students and teachers in the learning and teaching of ICT.

Mr Israel Martei, the Circuit Supervisor for Kanda Circuit, said the ICT support had come at the right time to enable the students prepare practically for their ICT examination.

He commended Management and Staff for the support, saying it would go a long way to improve on students’ knowledge in the digital space.

Mr Martei said the screening would help identify students with sight problem, who needed support to correct.

The Circuit Supervisor said the financial education would help the students to know about savings at a young stage of their lives.
