The integrated process, when completed in April 2018, would have Airtel Money and Tigo Cash rebranded into AirtelTigo Money and will enable customers to do transactions on both Airtel Money and Tigo Cash wallets. Also both customers can cash in and cash- out at each other’s agents seamlessly.
The integration will also deliver superior customer experience by providing access to wider agent network, reduce customer’s cost of transaction, and facilitate product innovation.
The Chief Executive Officer of AirtelTigo, Ms Roshi Motman, at a media briefing, said the company had been working to integrate and harmonise the two platforms after the merger because the big agenda of the merged entity remained digital and financial inclusion.
“We have begun integration for Airtel Money and Tigo Cash. To this end, we have signed an agreement with Mahindra Comviva, a global leader in providing mobility solutions to help us deliver this on a secure and reliable platform.”
“The integrated mobile money service will be executed by the world’s leading mobile money platform Mobiquity Money provided by Comviva,” she said.
Benefits of integration
Customers, she said, would enjoy an expanded network and agent base as a result of the integration.
Aside from that, the company was developing innovative products and services that would enrich customer experience.
“We are in the process of increasing our banking partners to drive improved liquidity in the market. Customers will be able to perform banking services (bank to wallet and wallet to bank) through their AirtelTigo money accounts with up to 20 partner banks,” she said.
The Director, AirtelTigo Money, Mr Edmund Barwuah, said the company would put in measures to ensure the safety of the integrated platforms in the face of the rising challenges associated with the use of mobile money services in Ghana.
He said the expectation was to give real value to customers and as a result it would work to achieve this by the set target to end the integration process.
Currently, AirtelTigo registered mobile money customer base is about six million with a transaction count of 4.5million per month.
