Airtel Ghana has been named ChangeMaker Company of the Year (Silver Honors) for Corporate Social Responsibility under the International category for Best Social impact and community initiative. This award was conferred under the prestigious Bharti ChangeMaker Awards 2017 by Bharti Foundation, the CSR arm of Bharti Group.
The ChangeMaker Awards honors companies within the Bharti Group that have embedded CSR into their business operations. The annual awards is also held to identify and appreciate all those individuals and Companies with the Bharti Group who are going beyond their core business operations to support the initiatives of the Foundation.
The Silver honour, the second highest award was bestowed on Airtel Ghana by Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, Sunil Bharti Mittal for the company’s significant and far-reaching efforts to integrate social responsibility across its products, services and communities through initiatives such as the Airtel Ghana Schools Adoption Programme and the Evolve with STEM Initiative.
The award was conferred on Airtel Ghana at a well-attended event in New Delhi, India – making it the third consecutive time Airtel Ghana is being recognized under the prestigious annual awards. The company received the Gold awards in 2014 and 2015.
Evolve with STEM is an Airtel Ghana initiative focused on changing mindsets and empowering young people to embrace Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to accelerate Africa’s development. The initiative has impacted over 3,000 pupils across the country and achieved its goals through mentoring sessions; STEM experiential fairs as well as the creation of STEM exploratory clubs in selected schools.
