Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's largest automaker, on Monday unveiled the 2012 version of its luxury passenger sedan, the Genesis, with a new, powerful engine that outperforms its previous version in every aspect.
The 2012 Genesis comes with either a 3.3-liter Lambda engine or a 3.8-liter GDi engine that produces a maximum horsepower of 334, a 15.2 percent improvement from that of the 3.8 MPI engine.
The new 3.8 GDi engine also produces maximum torque of 40.3 kilogram-meters, 10.4 percent higher than the MPI engine, and has an improved fuel efficiency of 10.2 kilometers per liter, according to Hyundai.
"With the highest quality and performance in its segment that also overwhelms its foreign competitors, the 2012 Genesis will offer the highest value and satisfaction to customers," it said.
The vehicle also comes with the world's first 8-speed automatic transmission that allows drivers to enjoy the car's power and driving dynamics to their fullest extent, the company said.
Other various new features, such as the intelligent accelerator pedal system that automatically alerts the driver when an imminent danger is detected or the car runs out of the optimum speed range, also make the vehicle one of the safest and most efficient in its segment, according to the company.
The price of the 2012 Genesis will be revealed Wednesday when the vehicle will officially be launched in South Korea, according to Hyundai. The company began receiving pre-orders for the vehicle on Feb. 25.
