Aqua Vitens Rand Limited, acting for and on behalf of the Ghana Water Company Limited as the Operator, on Tuesday began installing 40,000 domestic water meters nationwide in the premises of consumers.
A statement issued by AVRL said the installation, which would be from March 1 to April 30, was in line with Ghana Water Company’s policy to ensure 100 per cent metering.
It said the installation of the meters had been awarded on contract to private companies to ensure completion on schedule.
Under the installation programme, meters will be fixed at premises which have none and those with faulty ones will have them replaced.
“The meters will be installed at no cost to customers. Customers are entreated to cooperate with the contractors by opening up their premises and helping to identify service lines,” the statement said.
The breakdown of meters to be installed in various cities and towns around the country is as follows: Accra, 23,000; Kumasi 11,000; Cape Coast, Winneba and Swedru, 2,000; Tamale, 2,000, Koforidua,
1,500, and Ho, 1,000.
AVRL advised customers to text any enquiries and complaints to 1700 from any network throughout the country.
It said 0302 211 260 and the toll free line 0800 40 000 cannot be reached until further notice because of technical problems that were being rectified.
