Mrs Alice Coffie, Assembly Member for Asumura Electoral Area in Brong Ahafo Region, has called for the rehabilitation of roads in the area to alleviate the plight of the people.
"Because our road is in a deplorable state, vehicles cannot commute from Asumura to Goaso, most farm produce are rotting. The situation worsened during the rainy season when streams in the forest overflow their banks,"she said.
Mrs Coffie, who made the appeal in an interview with Ghana News Agency, said the road was the only link between Asumura and its environs and the Bibiani-Goaso Highway.
"Construction of the road is crucial for the nation's economy because about 30 per cent of cocoa and timber exported are harvested in area. In
addition, we produce foodstuffs including plantain, cassava and yams," she said.
Mrs Coffie said sometimes passengers had to sleep in vehicles in the middle of the road because the vehicles could not cross streams after heavy rains.
