Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) on Tuesday said it would postpone its plans to shed mines and up to 14,000 jobs in South Africa after "constructive" talks with the government and unions.
The world's top platinum producer has said it is hard pressed to restructure to remain viable but the plan that will see nearly 13,000 jobs cut in North West province alone has drawn the ire of authorities and workers.
Amplats said the delay would "allow for a detailed consultation process" involving the company, various labour organizations and the government.
