Samsung Electronics America has added three new wearables to its portfolio, the Gear Sport fitness-focused water-resistant smartwatch, the Gear Fit2 Pro upgraded GPS fitness band with smart features, and the Gear IconX, second-generation, cordless earbuds.
Both the Gear Sport and Gear Fit2 Pro are water-resistant and include swim tracking for lap count, lap time, or stroke type with the Speedo On swimming training app. Both devices have heart rate monitoring functions and audio activity detection. This means they can recognize different categories of activities such as walking, running, cycling or performing other dynamic activities like dancing or basketball. Through updated partnerships, customers can access Under Armour’s fitness apps including UA Record, MyFitnessPal, MapMyRun and Endomondo for activity, nutrition, sleep, and fitness tracking functions, or connect to Spotify. Finally, both new devices offer 'Personalized Motivation', which provide customized wellness plans with tailored goals and alerts.
The Gear Sport, which comes in Blue and Black, has a minimalistic, circular bezel, Super AMOLED 1.2-inch display and improved user interface. Owners can get nutrition management alerts and activity recommendations even when they are offline. The smartwatch includes fundamental Gear functions: it can control compatible Samsung IoT-enabled devices through Samsung Connect, act as a remote control, whether for a PowerPoint presentation or Samsung Gear VR headset, or can pay for goods with a flick of the wrist via Samsung Pay.
The Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro comes with built-in GPS tracking, a Super AMOLED curved 1.5-inch display and a high-resolution color touchscreen, and a new secure, ergonomic light weight and comfortable band. It is available in Black and Red. The Gear Fit2 Pro will be available for pre-order on 31 August for USD 199.99 at Amazon, Best Buy, B&H, Macys and Samsung.com. People who pre-order will get a free pair of Samsung U Flex wireless headphones. The Gear Fit2 Pro will be available on 15 September through Amazon, Best Buy, B&H, Macys, Samsung.com, Sprint and US Cellular.
The IconX cord-free earbuds which, come in black, gray and pink, can also connect to personal assistant Bixby. With a simple tap and hold of the earbud, people can use their voice to control the music or the phone, without touching the device. They can also automatically track running routines, and feature a standalone Running Coach which can be activated by tapping the earbud to provide in-ear audio exercise status updates, in real-time and without the phone. They have a battery life of up to five hours of streaming and up to six hours of standalone music playing, and up to 4GB of internal storage.
