I made my way up the stairs to the Damba Hall of the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel. I was late. And miserably so. Someday, I might get used to Accra traffic. For now though, I had only one thing on my mind – Italian Cuisine.
I was attending the pre-launch of a mouth watering fête of Italian Food and Culture at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel. A food and cultural festival is my kind of event, especially when it involves Italians. I learnt that the event was to be the first in the hotel’s planned series of cultural and food traditions of selected countries presenting various national culinary customs.
The real party was set for the 10th to 16th of September 2010. A weeklong celebration of ethnic cuisine planned to expose the Ghanaian public and other nationals in Accra to Italian culinary arts, promote cultural exchange, networking, ethnic sensitivity and diversity. In my mind’s eye I envisioned a splendid array of Italian and local cuisine that I really couldn’t wait to sample.
According to LaPalm, the celebration was being hosted in conjunction with the Italian Embassy and would especially focus on fine cuisine from Basilicata, Italy. The idea was to create a feeling of being immersed into ‘Little Italy’ right here in the middle of Accra.
La-Palm Royal Beach Hotel was all set to host The Italian Folklore Group, The Ghana Dance Ensemble, a fantastic selection of Italian and Ghanaian cuisine and a photo exhibition of famous sites from Italy during the weeklong celebration. What really struck me as commendable about this event was the fact that it would also help raise awareness and give the opportunity for the general public to contribute to charity organizations.
As I bit into juicy khebabs and mouthwatering savouries I made a firm decision to suspend my personal ‘slim diet mission’ till after 16th September and smiled mischievously to myself as I dug in.
Do join me and several friends at the Adae Kesse Hall of the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on the 10th of September at 6:30pm as we launch into a fantastic diet free week!
