An Assembly member has pleaded with President John Evans Atta Mills to nominate a District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Atwima-Nwabiagya District.
Mr Francis Bobie-Ansah, Chairman of Social Services Committee of the Assembly, said the absence of a Chief Executive was negatively affecting the development of the area.
Atwima-Nwabiagya, Atwima-Kwanwoma and Adansi South are the three districts in Ashanti, which currently have no DCEs.
Making the appeal through the Ghana News Agency, Mr Bobie-Ansah said the important role of the DCE in the local government system was too crucial to ignore.
It was on account of this that the position should not be left vacant.
Mr Christopher Chogkureh, the President's earlier nominee for the position, had to be withdrawn, after he twice failed to receive the two-thirds majority votes of the Assembly.
Mr Bobie-Ansah said he was confident that the right nominee would be given the nod by the assembly.
