At the opening sitting, Dr. Al- Teraiki said that the conference convenes in critical international circumstances that require direct efforts for the solution of Darfur issue, affirming the Libyan keenness on the unity and sovereignty of Sudan and his country's efforts for reaching at peaceful solution..
He regretted the absence of other parties that did not sign Darfur peace agreement..
Dr. Al- Teraiki referred to the efforts being exerted by the African Union, the UN and the neighbouring countries including Chad, Eritrea and Libya, and the contacts they made with the all parties till the armed movements arrived at semi- consensus among them and expressed their readiness to sit for negotiation..
The UN envoy, Jan Eliasson, addressed the meeting and thanking the Libyan leadership for hosting the conference, stressing the importance of support to the cooperation between UN and the African Union, referring to the cooperation between all parties, affirming the important role being played by the African Union and the United Nations for setting up road map..
He pointed out that the UN will work seriously for preparation for the talks, stating that it is high time for all parties to begin the negotiations in next August.
Meanwhile, Dr. Salem pointed to the First Tripoli Meeting, held in last April, its outcomes, the agreement to peacefully solve the crisis, the determination, the responsibly and the initiatives assigned to the African Union..
