Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder Enoch Asubonteng has urged fans and pundits to be patient with their expectations, stressing that it was far too early to talk about winning the Ghana Premier League title after just four games into the season.
The young attacker was the standout performer in Hearts’ recent clash against Eleven Wonders, where he not only scored his first goal of the season but also walked away with the Man of the Match award.
His contribution played a crucial role in giving the Phobians back-to-back wins under Head Coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, fuelling renewed optimism among the supporters.
Yet, despite the wave of excitement, Asubonteng remains measured in his assessment of their prospects.
“It’s too early to talk about the title,” the midfielder said in his post-match interview. “There are so many games left, and other clubs have also shown they will be very competitive this season. We are determined to fight and make our fans proud, but right now our focus is only on taking it game by game.”
The Ghana Premier League has already shown signs of being a tightly contested battle this season, with traditional giants like Asante Kotoko, Aduana Stars, Medeama, and Heart of Lions all signalling their intent to challenge for the ultimate prize.
For Hearts, consistency has been their biggest challenge in recent years. The Phobians last lifted the league trophy in the 2020/21 season, when they completed a historic domestic double under coach Samuel Boadu.
Since then, they have struggled to rediscover that dominance, finishing mid-table in some campaigns and missing out on continental football.
The Accra-based club remains one of Ghana’s most successful sides with 21 Premier League titles, but they still trail their fiercest rivals, Asante Kotoko, who boast 25 championships.
Bridging that gap has become a matter of pride for their passionate fan base, who continue to demand a return to the glory days.
Asubonteng acknowledges that weight of expectation but insists the team must maintain focus and discipline to succeed.
