Highly rated Ghanaian boxer, Theophilus Kpakpo Allotey, alias Theo Lopez, showed full positive effects of his one-month training tour outside the country by strenuously examining opponent, Razak Nettey through four and a half dominant minutes in the ring last Friday night in Accra.
The 22-year-old Allotey, a former national boxing team star who won bronze with the Black Bombers during the Accra 2023 Africa Games, returned to the country just last week from a one-month training camp in British Cayman Islands.
The youngster, who turned professional in July, jumped straight into his fifth career fight against the much-experienced Nettey on the undercard of the Fight Ready Promotions Fight Night which took place at Sowutuom in Accra.
Allotey was in good condition such that he virtually gave Nettey no breathing space in the one-and-half rounds the scheduled six-round bantamweight clash lasted, punishing the opponent with some good hooks, jabs and uppercuts right from the sound of the bell in round 1.
The pummelling got even worse for Nettey in the second round so much so that, he was soon writhing in pain on the canvas due to the excessive number of hefty body shots Allotey employed to good effect. Referee Nathaniel Neequaye Kotey had no choice but to stop proceedings at only 1:19 minutes of round 2 following the inability of Nettey to beat the mandatory count.
"I came through the amateur ranks where we did a lot of hard work so it makes things a lot easier now that I am in the pro ranks. If you want to be a world champion, you have to fight champions so I am ready for anybody in my division in Ghana and beyond to come forward let's give the fans what they want. I thank my team for all the love and support as well as all the fans who came to support me," Allotey said.
His trainer, Coach Ofori Asare, has no doubt whatsoever about the quality of the boxer on his hands and is pushing Allotey to believe he has everything needed to be a world champion.
"He is a top prospect and you can see the level, he comes into the ring to perform no matter the situation. This is the time for him to face all kinds of tests so we are ready for any opponent. That's what will put him in a position to go out there and bring the world title we are looking forward to," Coach Asare said.
In other fights on the night, Seth Gyimah, better known as Freezy Macbones once again scored a round one stoppage victory, this time all it took was one punch to take out opponent, Francis Manda, in just under a minute while Military officer, Elvis Ahorgah, warmed up for his November 23 re-fight against Ernest Akushey with a round 4 TKO of David Okine.
Former Ghana lightweight champion, Nathaniel Kpakpo Allotey, who only recently parted company with his long-time manager was back in action for the first time in over 18 months and proved too strong for Kofi Ansah Raymond as well as wins on debut for the Fight Ready trio of Isaac Nshira Gepi-Attee, George Brown and Prince Kamaldeen Mohammed.
