Ghana DC Select Side (Asante Kotoko) won the Capital City Africa Cup for the Ghanaian club at the Audi Field Stadium in Washington, US. Kumasi Asante Kotoko were more determined to win and committed to the game, with goals from Justice Blay and Geoffrey Owusu.
DC United team official Jack Silverstein, who also a co-owner and Director of English side Swansea City AFC, told me that the Ghanaian club Asante Kotoko team's travel concerns and lack of a full squad led them to reconsider using the name "Ghana DC Select Side" instead of Kumasi Asante Kotoko. The "Ghana Week DC Select Side" consists of seven players from Asante Kotoko's main team, two from Attram De Visser FC, and other elite Ghanaian players based in America."
"The aims to promote Ghanaian tourism, culture, and sports in the DMV area, and its was a week-long program highlights the close relationships between Ghana, the United States, and the African diaspora, promoting cultural interchange and unity."
Silverstein said, "The 2024 DC Ghana Week celebrates Ghanaian art, culture, business, tourism, sports, and food in Washington, D.C. Hosted by the Ghana Tourism Authority,Soul-DC Liquid, Events DC, and DC United and DC Ghana Week, with series of cultural, economic, and sporting events in the nation's capital aimed at increasing economic participation, cooperation, and investment in Africa."
