Anticipation is building as the Memory Lane PGA Championship, one of the biggest events on the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Ghana calendar, is set to take place from October 16-18, 2024 at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi.
The tournament will serve as the final opportunity for Ghana's top professional golfers to secure their spots in this year’s ultimate PGA Championship, scheduled for the Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono.
This flagship event will determine the selection of 24 golfers who will compete in the year-end tournament, making it a crucial contest for players eager to showcase their skills. With the end of Gold Fields’ decade-long sponsorship in 2023, the PGA has secured a new title sponsor, set to be announced in the coming weeks.
Behind the scenes, the PGA leadership, both in Accra and Kumasi, are making extensive preparations to ensure the smooth organization of the tournament.
Eric Henaku, the tournament director, along with former director Rev. Akwasi Prempeh, expressed their excitement about the high level of interest shown by golfers, particularly given the championship’s significance as the last qualifier of the season.
From his base in the UK, PGA Director of Operations, Ahmed Padori encouraged upcoming professionals to remain focused and approach the tournament with a positive mindset.
He emphasized that even players currently ranked lower should not be intimidated but should give their best effort to secure a deserving score.
Mr. Padori also extended the PGA’s gratitude to Professor Bernard Kofi Baiden and his team at the Royal Golf Club for providing their facilities for the championship, ensuring a world-class venue for this prestigious event.
