Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association, Dr. Randy Abbey, says it is a significant relief for Ghana to host its home game against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana faced the risk of embarrassment after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) revoked the Baba Yara Sports Stadium’s license due to the unfortunate events that followed Ghana’s defeat to Angola in Kumasi.
Ghana will now play Sudan in Accra next week, October 11, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium but, Dr. Abbey says there is still work to be done to bring the Accra Sports Stadium to its optimal condition.
Dr. Randy Abbey expressed his happiness after making an appearance on Metro TV’s Sports Show.
Dr. Randy Abbey, Ghana Football Executive Council Member
CAF has written to us and they have given us what you would want to call a conditional approval.
It was an approval to play the 11th of October game at the Accra Sports Stadium.
And they have indicated that there are some things that we need to do, even before that game.
And what that means is that the approval is just for that game.
And that CAF needs to be satisfied at every point in time before we are allowed to play subsequent games.
So yes, we are relieved that we’ll have to play this game here in Ghana and we’ll be playing Accra.
So it’s a huge relief.
You would always prefer that you’re playing your home than to travel elsewhere to go and play when it is not in away match.
And so we are happy and I think we need to focus on how we can get the team ready to take the three points on the 11th.
And then we just hope that whoever is responsible for ensuring that we don’t get into the kind of situation will also have to do their job.
